Germany is Europe's largest economy and has enacted some of the most progressive high-skill immigration reforms in the European Union through its Skilled Immigration Act (Fachkräfteeinwanderungsgesetz).
1. Updated 2026 EU Blue Card Salary Thresholds
To qualify for an EU Blue Card in Germany, your job offer must satisfy one of two statutory salary brackets:
- Shortage Occupations (MINT/STEM, IT, Physicians, Engineers): Approx. €41,041 gross per year.
- Standard Occupations: Approx. €45,300 gross per year.
The Breakthrough IT Experience Clause
Under the new regulations, IT specialists do not require a university degree if they can demonstrate at least three years of relevant professional experience within the last seven years.
2. Fast-Track to German Permanent Residency
Holders of the EU Blue Card enjoy the fastest settlement timetable in the European Union:
- After 27 Months: Eligible for German Permanent Settlement (Niederlassungserlaubnis) with basic German language skills (A1 CEFR).
- After 21 Months: Eligible for Permanent Settlement with intermediate German skills (B1 CEFR).
