Morgan Sindall Infrastructure is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager (UGC) to join our Energy Business Unit, based from our offices in Motherwell or Inverness. Supporting the SSEN Framework, this role will have a particular focus on major underground cable infrastructure projects, helping to deliver critical energy networks across Scotland.
As Engineering Manager, you will provide leadership across multi-disciplinary engineering activities throughout both pre-contract and project delivery stages. You will be responsible for managing internal and external engineering resources, ensuring engineering solutions are delivered safely, compliantly, on time and in line with project and client requirements.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the successful delivery of major energy infrastructure projects, driving engineering excellence, innovation and continuous improvement while working collaboratively with clients, consultants, delivery teams, and industry partners.
Role Responsibilities
Lead and manage multi-disciplinary engineering activities across both pre-contract and project delivery stages.
Manage internal and external engineering resources, ensuring effective deployment, performance, and project support.
Identify temporary works and engineering requirements, allocating appropriate resources to support delivery.
Function as a senior point of contact for clients, consulting engineers, and key stakeholders.
Ensure staff competency, training records and compliance requirements are maintained.
Implement and monitor health, safety, environmental and quality standards across all engineering activities.
Manage relationships with consulting engineers, supporting design agreements and design management activities.
Support pre-contract activities including bid reviews, tender development, interviews, and presentations.
Drive innovation, continuous improvement, lessons learned and knowledge sharing across the business.
Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and promote best practice throughout project delivery.
Support the mobilisation of new contracts, including engineering governance and HSEQ arrangements.
Provide engineering assurance support across collaborative delivery environments, joint ventures, and alliances.
Conduct audits and produce reports to support quality and environmental compliance.
Support planning and resource management activities across the wider Infrastructure business.
Represent Morgan Sindall Infrastructure within industry forums and professional networks where appropriate.
Collaborate with senior leadership teams to support operational objectives and business strategy.
Ensure engineering deliverables are completed safely, efficiently and in line with commercial and programme requirements.
Essential
Degree qualified, or equivalent, in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience delivering civil engineering design and construction projects within regulated or infrastructure sectors.
Experience leading and managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
Experience supporting major project tenders and bid submissions.
Experience managing engineering and design processes during both tender and project delivery phases.
Strong understanding of engineering governance, compliance, and assurance requirements.
Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, construction methodologies, and industry standards.
Understanding of commercial arrangements, procurement routes, and construction contracts.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills.
Effective communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.
Ability to collaborate with clients, consultants, contractors, and senior leadership teams.
Initiative-taking approach to innovation, continuous improvement, and problem-solving.
Desirable
Chartered status or membership of a relevant professional institution (such as ICE, IET or equivalent).
Experience working within joint ventures, alliances, or collaborative delivery models.
Experience using ViewPoint.
Experience using Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
Experience within the energy, utilities, or major infrastructure sectors.
Experience working on underground cable, transmission, or distribution projects.

About the Energy Business Unit
We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.
Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.

Key Qualifications & Candidate Profile
- Relevant technical qualifications in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- Proven track record operating on UK construction sites or major infrastructure frameworks.
- Knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental standards (CDM regulations, CSCS, IOSH/NEBOSH).
- Strong communication, team coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
Compensation & Benefits Guidance
Estimated Remuneration: GBP £45,000 - £65,000 per annum (competitive market rate commensurate with experience)
