About the Role
We are seeking an experienced General Foreman to join our Rail Business Unit and play a key role in the delivery of a significant Accessibility for All (AfA) Scheme at Flitwick. Working within the Network Rail Eastern Framework, this high-profile project involves multiple multidisciplinary interfaces and offers the opportunity to contribute to a major enhancement programme that will improve accessibility for rail passengers.
Working alongside the Site Agent and Engineering team, you will take ownership of the day-to-day management of site operations, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
About the Role
As General Foreman, you will be responsible for coordinating and supervising site activities, labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors to ensure successful project delivery. You will be a visible leader on site, championing safety, performance, quality, and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day site activities and supervise site operations.
Coordinate and control all site works, ensuring compliance with programme requirements.
Lead site teams and subcontractors to achieve safe and efficient delivery.
Deliver toolbox talks, task briefings, and safety communications.
Monitor labour, materials, plant, and subcontractor performance.
Maintain site records and diaries, ensuring accurate reporting of activities.
Work closely with the Site Agent, Engineers, and wider project team to review progress and resolve issues.
Ensure compliance with all SHEQ, environmental, and statutory requirements.
Monitor quality standards and ensure works are completed in accordance with specifications and drawings.
Identify and communicate risks, issues, contractual variations, and opportunities for improvement.
About You
You will be an established General Foreman or Site Supervisor with experience delivering railway infrastructure projects and leading operational teams in a live rail environment.
Essential Requirements
Experience managing site operations within the railway industry.
Experience supervising multidisciplinary construction activities.
SMSTS Certification.
Personal Track Safety (PTS).
Strong understanding of site safety, quality, and delivery requirements.
Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills.
Ability to plan works effectively and drive programme performance.
Desirable
NVQ Level 3 or 4 (or equivalent vocational qualification).
CSCS Card.
First Aid Qualification.
CITB 5-Day Site Management qualification.

Key Qualifications & Candidate Profile
- Relevant technical qualifications in Construction Management, Commercial Surveying, or relevant technical trade.
- Proven track record operating on UK construction sites or major infrastructure frameworks.
- Knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental standards (CDM regulations, CSCS, IOSH/NEBOSH).
- Strong communication, team coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
Compensation & Benefits Guidance
Estimated Remuneration: GBP £42,000 - £60,000 per annum (competitive market rate commensurate with experience)
