We’re seeking an experienced Environmental Advisor to join a flagship National Grid project at Penrhos Substation. Set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this is a unique opportunity to work on a complex and environmentally sensitive scheme involving protected species such as great crested newts and red squirrels.
Reporting to the Environmental Manager, you’ll play a key role in managing the environmental aspects of the project, providing day-to-day advice, and ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and standards. You’ll also support and mentor junior team members, helping to build capability within the team.
Role Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day environmental management and oversight across the project
Offer clear, practical environmental advice to stakeholders at all levels
Support the development and implementation of environmental elements within the Integrated Management System (IMS)
Produce and maintain documentation to support ISO14001 certification
Contribute to environmental strategy, action plans, and continuous improvement initiatives
Lead and participate in environmental inspections, audits, and incident investigations, driving corrective actions
Monitor and report on environmental performance, including monthly metrics (waste, energy, water, fuel)
Support pre-contract and work-winning activities with environmental input
Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits, licences, and consents
Deliver environmental training to staff, operatives, and subcontractors
Promote best practice and share lessons learned across the business
Collaborate with the Environmental Manager to enhance processes and documentation
Engage with clients and stakeholders on environmental matters and solutions
You are a knowledgeable and proactive environmental professional with strong site-based experience. You’re confident providing guidance, driving compliance, and balancing environmental priorities within complex construction projects.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Demonstrable experience in a similar role within construction or infrastructure
Experience working in a site-based environment
Strong understanding of environmental legislation and construction-related permits, licences, and consents
Experience working in line with ISO14001 environmental management systems
Proven experience in auditing and incident investigation
Ability to manage environmental risks in complex project environments

About the Energy Business Unit
We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.
Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.

Key Qualifications & Candidate Profile
- Relevant technical qualifications in Construction Management, Commercial Surveying, or relevant technical trade.
- Proven track record operating on UK construction sites or major infrastructure frameworks.
- Knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental standards (CDM regulations, CSCS, IOSH/NEBOSH).
- Strong communication, team coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
Compensation & Benefits Guidance
Estimated Remuneration: GBP £35,000 - £48,000 per annum (competitive market rate commensurate with experience)
