SHE Manager

We are looking for a motivated and ambitious SHE Manager to join our team on the Metrowest Programme, supporting the delivery of a range of high-profile rail infrastructure schemes as part of a Network Rail contract.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced SHE professional to play a key role in driving safe project delivery across a complex and demanding programme. Reporting to the Head of Health & Safety, with a dotted line into the Project Director, you will provide expert guidance on compliance, engagement, risk management, and continuous improvement, ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and wellbeing are embedded throughout the project lifecycle.
Role Responsibilities
Lead the implementation and promotion of health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives across the Metrowest Programme.
Provide professional advice and support to project teams, operational management, and supply chain partners on health and safety matters.
Monitor compliance with health and safety legislation, company policies, client requirements, and industry best practice.
Undertake audits, inspections, and assurance activities to verify compliance and identify areas for improvement.
Support the development and review of risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.
Drive an initiative-taking safety culture through workforce engagement, coaching, and behavioural safety initiatives.
Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, ensuring lessons learned are effectively communicated and implemented.
Analyse health and safety performance data and provide recommendations to improve outcomes.
Consult with clients, regulators, and other key stakeholders on health and safety matters.
Support project teams in identifying, managing, and mitigating health and safety risks throughout all phases of delivery.
Ensure health and safety objectives are integrated into project planning and operational activities.
Promote continuous improvement and share best practice across the wider business.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Proven experience in a Health & Safety role within the rail, construction, or major infrastructure sector.
Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and its practical application within construction environments.
Experience of compliance management, auditing, incident investigation, and risk management.
OSH qualification or equivalent health and safety professional accreditation.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
Experience working on large, complex infrastructure projects with multiple contractors and stakeholders.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
Ability to build positive working relationships and promote a strong health and safety culture.
NEBOSH qualification or working towards a higher-level health and safety qualification.
Experience working within Network Rail projects or rail infrastructure environments.
Membership of a recognised professional body such as IOSH.
Experience supporting behavioural safety and workforce engagement programmes.

Key Qualifications & Candidate Profile
- Relevant technical qualifications in Construction Management, Commercial Surveying, or relevant technical trade.
- Proven track record operating on UK construction sites or major infrastructure frameworks.
- Knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental standards (CDM regulations, CSCS, IOSH/NEBOSH).
- Strong communication, team coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
Compensation & Benefits Guidance
Estimated Remuneration: GBP £45,000 - £65,000 per annum (competitive market rate commensurate with experience)
