Key Responsibilities & Scope
We are hiring a number of Principal Engineer roles across Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane to join multiple teams at Xero. As a Principal Engineer, you will drive technical excellence and lead the evolution of complex, distributed software systems that power critical experiences for millions of small businesses. You will shape architecture, solve intricate engineering challenges at scale, and set new technical standards across the organization. Your impact extends far beyond code. You will serve as a technical guide and mentor across multiple teams, influencing strategic decisions, championing modern delivery practices, and elevating engineering quality to ensure our products remain reliable, secure, and scalable. The team works together in a supportive environment focused on open communication, continuous learning, and shared technical governance. Candidate Qualifications & Profile
- Proven experience operating within high-impact industry or enterprise environments.
- Relevant degree or recognized professional accreditation in Cloud Accounting & SaaS.
- Strong collaborative problem-solving skills and dedication to technical or operational excellence.
Compensation Guidance (AUD)
Salary Range: AUD $1,05,000 - $1,41,750 / year (commensurate with skills & experience).
- Includes standard Australian statutory superannuation (11.5%+), health & wellness allowances, and professional progression pathways.
