We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Project Design Engineer to join our MSES team, supporting the delivery of a diverse portfolio of major construction and infrastructure schemes. This is an exciting opportunity for someone eager to develop both their technical expertise and project management skills within a growing centre of excellence.

Reporting to a Team Lead, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions. The role offers excellent scope for progression and increased responsibility within a dynamic and supportive environment.

Role Responsibilities

Deliver the design and checking of a wide range of temporary works schemes, from concept through to construction.

Support the successful delivery of projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

Take ownership of moderately sized projects, managing outputs and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.

Contribute to innovative, practical engineering solutions across major UK infrastructure projects.

Collaborate closely within the MSES team, sharing knowledge and supporting continuous improvement.

Apply a strong focus on quality, safety, and ‘right first time’ delivery principles.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Degree-qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering

Actively working towards Chartership (ICE or IStructE)

Proven experience in the design of temporary works within civil engineering or construction projects

Knowledge of structural and/or geotechnical analysis software

Ideally experienced in geotechnically-focused temporary works, such as:

Load-bearing piles.

Earth retaining structures.

Slope stability

Dewatering systems

Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage projects and stakeholders effectively.

An initiative-taking, ambitious mindset with a desire to learn and progress.

Key Qualifications & Candidate Profile

  • Relevant technical qualifications in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven track record operating on UK construction sites or major infrastructure frameworks.
  • Knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental standards (CDM regulations, CSCS, IOSH/NEBOSH).
  • Strong communication, team coordination, and problem-solving abilities.

Compensation & Benefits Guidance

Estimated Remuneration: GBP £45,000 - £65,000 per annum (competitive market rate commensurate with experience)
