We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Planner to support the delivery of major infrastructure and energy projects within a nationally significant framework. Role Responsibilities
As Senior Planner, you will be responsible for:
Leading the development, management, and maintenance of detailed project programmes in line with contractual requirements and project delivery milestones.
Monitoring project progress against baseline programmes, identifying risks, delays and opportunities, and implementing mitigation strategies where required.
Producing regular programme updates, reports, critical path analysis, and performance metrics to support effective decision-making.
Coordinating programme activities across project delivery, commercial, engineering, and subcontractor teams to ensure alignment and successful execution.
Supporting project teams with sequencing, resource planning, and short-term programme management.
Managing programme-related contractual requirements, including support with compensation events and change management processes.
Ensuring planning activities align with client standards, governance requirements, and project objectives.
Providing planning expertise throughout the project lifecycle, from delivery through to completion and handover.
Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and promoting planning best practice across projects and teams.
Contributing to tender planning activities, including programme development, methodology reviews and project controls input where required.
Supporting and mentoring less experienced planners and helping to foster professional development within the wider planning team.
Essential Requirements
Experience in a Senior Planning role within major infrastructure, utilities, power, energy, or construction projects.
Strong knowledge of NEC contracts, including programme management requirements and compensation event processes.
Demonstrable experience developing, managing, and analysing complex project programmes using Primavera P6 or similar planning software.
Strong understanding of project controls principles, including critical path analysis, resource planning, progress measurement, and earned value management.
Experience identifying programme risks and developing effective mitigation and recovery strategies.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with operational, commercial, engineering, and subcontractor teams.
Strong stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction methodologies.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Experience producing clear programme reports, narratives, dashboards, and presentations.
Working knowledge of Power BI and other project controls or reporting systems.
Desirable Requirements
Experience working on transmission, distribution, substation, or other regulated utility projects.
Familiarity with utility client standards, procedures, and project delivery requirements.
Experience delivering projects within framework environments.
Experience supporting tender planning and pre-construction activities.
Understanding of commissioning, outage planning, and operational constraints within live infrastructure environments.
Experience planning across multiple projects or programme-level portfolios.
Experience mentoring junior planners and promoting planning best practice.
Exposure to digital transformation initiatives within planning, project controls, or reporting functions.

About the Energy Business Unit
We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.
Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.

Key Qualifications & Candidate Profile
- Relevant technical qualifications in Construction Management, Commercial Surveying, or relevant technical trade.
- Proven track record operating on UK construction sites or major infrastructure frameworks.
- Knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental standards (CDM regulations, CSCS, IOSH/NEBOSH).
- Strong communication, team coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
Compensation & Benefits Guidance
Estimated Remuneration: GBP £55,000 - £78,000 per annum (competitive market rate commensurate with experience)
