We are looking for a motivated and experienced SR163 Site Manager to join our team on the GGP (Great Grid Upgrade) Framework, supporting the delivery of the PTNO/PTC1 (Pentir to Trawsfynydd) Project in North Wales.
This exciting project involves the modification of the existing National Grid substation at Trawsfynydd and forms part of a programme of works. As the project enters the delivery phase, we are seeking a skilled Site Manager to lead site operations through to project completion.
This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role within a high-profile National Grid project in a rapidly growing sector, offering long-term career development and the opportunity to work on major UK infrastructure.
Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Project Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant management of all site operations, ensuring works are delivered in accordance with National Grid standards and project requirements.
Leading and managing all day-to-day site operations within a live National Grid substation environment.
Acting as the primary interface between the project team and National Grid SAPs and operational personnel.
Ensuring full compliance with National Grid procedures, policies, and operational requirements.
Promoting and enforcing the highest standards of Health & Safety across site activities.
Managing environmental and quality requirements throughout project delivery.
Coordinating subcontractors, site teams, and project stakeholders to ensure effective programme delivery.
Monitoring construction progress and driving productivity to achieve project milestones.
Supporting the management of Mechanical and Electrical installation activities within the substation environment.
Contributing to commissioning preparation and interface activities where required.
Maintaining accurate site records, reporting progress, and escalating issues appropriately.
Supporting the successful delivery of the project.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Current SR163 Site Manager status with full NSI 6 & 8 competencies.
Proven experience working as a Site Manager within National Grid 400kV substations.
Experience operating in a Site Manager role on National Grid projects.
Strong working knowledge of National Grid operational procedures and requirements.
Experience managing construction activities within live EHV substation environments.
Mechanical and Electrical construction experience within power transmission or substation projects.
Good understanding of substation commissioning activities and associated interfaces.
Demonstrable experience managing Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality requirements on site.
Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to effectively coordinate multiple work fronts and contractors in a complex operational environment.
Experience delivering projects under National Grid framework contracts.
Knowledge of substation modification and upgrade projects.
Additional vocational or industry-recognised qualifications relevant to construction or electrical infrastructure delivery.

Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Key Qualifications & Candidate Profile
- Relevant technical qualifications in Construction Management, Commercial Surveying, or relevant technical trade.
- Proven track record operating on UK construction sites or major infrastructure frameworks.
- Knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental standards (CDM regulations, CSCS, IOSH/NEBOSH).
- Strong communication, team coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
Compensation & Benefits Guidance
Estimated Remuneration: GBP £45,000 - £65,000 per annum (competitive market rate commensurate with experience)
