Role Overview

About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory. This position is being filled as an Engineering Technician (Civil) DE-03 (GS-08/10) at either Vicksburg, Mississippi or Fort Polk, Louisiana. GS 8: $55,882 - $72,644 GS 9: $61,722 - $80,243 GS 10: $67,970 - $88,356

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Applying engineering methods and practices; Independently planning and accomplishing engineering project goals; Leading teams through completion of engineering and research projects and experiments; And documenting engineering data and related deficiencies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DE-02 (GS-07). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). - All qualification requirements, including time after competitive appointment, must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. - This announcement MAY be used to fill like vacancies for six months after the closing date. - In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dates March 25, 1998, an employee of the Laboratory Demonstration project must have a current average performance score of 2.5 or above in order to be selected for promotion. All applicants currently employed under a Laboratory Demonstration Project must include their most recent performance appraisal score as part of their electronic resume. Coordinate with team to plan and accomplish projects.

Determine project equipment requirements and logistics.

Communicate directly with project stakeholders.

Utilize considerable judgment on unconventional projects.

Interpret engineering guidelines, principles, and practices related to: lab-scale and full-scale testing of structures and structural components, test article construction, prototype fabrication, explosive engineering, geophysical principles.

Lead diverse teams in completing field and laboratory experiments.

Take accountability for data collection, validity of data, and adherence of safety rules and regulations.

Research literature reviews to determine if precedents exist for current projects.

Develop new procedures and techniques that can be utilized by others.
