Works Manager

We are seeking an experienced and initiative-taking Works Manager to lead the on-site delivery of the Pontoon Dock Scheme for a major Transport for London (Docklands Light Railway) project.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly secured rail infrastructure project and play a pivotal role in its successful delivery. As a senior member of the project team, you will be responsible for managing construction activities on site, ensuring works are delivered safely, to programme and within budget, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance.

The role offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with the client, drive collaborative ways of working and contribute to the successful delivery of a high-profile transport infrastructure project.

Role Responsibilities

Lead and manage the safe delivery of all on-site construction activities.

Ensure works are delivered in accordance with project programme, budget, and quality requirements.

Coordinate and manage site teams, subcontractors, and supply chain partners to achieve project objectives.

Drive a positive health, safety, environmental and quality culture across the project.

Ensure compliance with company procedures, client requirements, and relevant industry standards.

Monitor project progress, identifying risks and implementing mitigation measures where necessary.

Work collaboratively with project stakeholders to ensure efficient project delivery and effective communication.

Manage site resources, logistics and operational activities to maximise productivity and performance.

Support project planning activities and contribute to successful project mobilisation and execution.

Ensure all project records, reporting requirements and construction documentation are maintained accurately.

Promote continuous improvement and identify opportunities to enhance project delivery and client satisfaction.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Experience in a Works Manager, Construction Manager or similar site leadership role.

Experience delivering complex civil engineering and/or MEP projects within a rail environment.

Strong understanding of construction delivery, project controls, and operational management.

Knowledge of health, safety, environmental and quality requirements within major infrastructure projects.

Experience managing subcontractors, direct labour, and multidisciplinary delivery teams.

Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Experience managing project programmes, resources, and budgets.

Knowledge of company management systems, procedures, and construction delivery processes.

Ability to identify and manage project risks while maintaining delivery objectives.

Experience working on Transport for London projects.

Experience within the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) network.

Experience delivering station, rail, or transport infrastructure projects.

Familiarity with relevant rail industry standards and working practices.

Relevant vocational, construction management or engineering qualifications.

Knowledge of company standards and project delivery procedures.

Key Qualifications & Candidate Profile

  • Relevant technical qualifications in Construction Management, Commercial Surveying, or relevant technical trade.
  • Proven track record operating on UK construction sites or major infrastructure frameworks.
  • Knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental standards (CDM regulations, CSCS, IOSH/NEBOSH).
  • Strong communication, team coordination, and problem-solving abilities.

Compensation & Benefits Guidance

Estimated Remuneration: GBP £45,000 - £65,000 per annum (competitive market rate commensurate with experience)
